Tao Okamoto | Vogue Japan – February 2012

Vogue Japan’s February 2012 issue, features Tao Okamoto in a centre page spread titled ‘School Daze’. The piece portrays a much more fresh; pristine approach to commercial editorial. Unveiling pleats, polka dots, mini lengths, dual layered checks, high waisted ruche flattery in accompaniment with drape shouldered, shape cut blazers. The photography is presented in a story board sense, with Okamoto travelling through the streets of Tokyo.

An embryonic representation to some, to others an original spin on editorial – exposing the bold backdrop of inner city Tokyo. Implementing Tokyo as a canvas, Okamoto tells the character driven story.

With vibrant hues of red, green, yellow and blue on show – photographer  Giampaolo Sgura, encompasses mood stills with a clever utilisation of colour and direction. Stylist Viviana Volpicella, makes the outfits work in sentiment of Okamoto’s image, resulting in a series of artistic, multidimensional shots.
