2011 – Florence Fashion Week A Designer’s Dream Come True…
Romantic, whimsical and aesthetically charming – just a few of the words that define the week that was, Florence Fashion Week.
Florence being one of the most romantic cities in the world, plays home to all things culture connected. A playground for Art, Music, Architecture and Fashion. This year Florence fashion week played host to an array of talented designers – known and emerging from the fashion world.
The Week presented a stage for new found talent and a record 1,010 brands. 80 Womens catwalk collections, at the Dogana and was a fun fair for fashion traders and buyers from all four corners of the globe.
One of the main highlights was the Gareth Pugh Collection. Presenting his Avante Garde vision of futuristic meets gothic looks. Indeed a proud moment for the 29 year old Brit, who was guest designer, making his debut to this particular foreign catwalk. His muse was enacted through his vision – comprising a diverse look to look catwalk show. An expression which took strong connotations of Florentine religious Art – in fitting, his designs were enriched by deep blues and contracting golds, to exemplify.
His dazzling creations screamed cutting edge and firey feminine. Interestingly layered, defined shoulder jackets and Gold and silver enthused dresses – detailed fishtale sequences – still in theme with his loyalty to radiant colour.
Leaving the audience in awe of his creativity, and daring approach to unconventional imagery – Pugh had really made his mark.
Florence Fashion Week enabled Pugh to be adventurous with space in his show – an element of profound importance to Pugh, with his collections being so rare and radical, space is a primary tool he needs to present the depth and nature of his creations. As well as the correct composition of music – these ingredients are simply essential.
Along with his fashion collection, Pugh collaborated with Ruth Hogben on presenting a detailed, documented preview on 21st century fashion. A multi talented designer indeed, and certainly one to keep an eye out for!
